CNN —For 108 days, Palestinian photographer Motaz Azaiza risked his life in Gaza to tell the story of the war to millions of followers on Instagram, as friends and family members were killed around him. “I want to capture the beauty of Gaza, not the war on Gaza. “I don’t call myself a journalist, I call myself a photographer,” Azaiza told CNN. After getting rejected twice by the Israeli government to leave, Azaiza told CNN that he managed to flee to Qatar with his family after much difficulty. He told CNN what struck with him the most was the “thousands of babies’ bodies” he saw.

Israel and Hamas have reached a deal that would allow medications to be delivered to Israeli hostages in return for additional medicine and aid for Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, officials said, marking a significant breakthrough in the indirect talks between the warring sides. The agreement was announced on Tuesday by Qatar, who have served as a mediator. A Hamas official, Basem Naim, later confirmed the agreement, and the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said a deal had been reached to send medicine to the hostages. More than 120 hostages have been held in Gaza since Oct. 7, and many have health conditions that require regular medical care, including cancer and diabetes. Their families have grown increasingly concerned as the war entered its fourth month and as hostages released in late November have shared harrowing accounts of their captivity.

Hamas is due to deliver the group - among around 240 people held in the Gaza Strip since the Palestinian militants' Oct. 7 killing spree in southern Israel - to neighbouring Egypt. After landing in Israel, they will receive preliminary medical care and be sent to several hospitals for reunions with their families. An Israeli official said military transport helicopters would take part in the repatriation, suggesting they would pick the hostages up at an Egyptian airport - perhaps in El Arish, near Gaza. Health officials have said separately that the hostages would receive psychological attention and specialised care for any who may have suffered sexual assault. Four hostages have been returned alive previously while a fifth was rescued by Israeli troops.

There is still a chance that an agreement could come together for people with foreign passports to leave.

On the far side of the Sinai Peninsula, about a six-hour drive from Cairo through a largely empty Egyptian desert, the Rafah crossing is a dun-colored expanse of sand, concrete and not much else. Yet over the last three weeks of Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza, Rafah has become the focus of heated negotiations, a place where many people, both powerful and powerless, have pinned their waning hopes. Egypt highlighted that role on Tuesday, when the government took reporters on a tightly controlled trip to Rafah. Aid trucks and army tanks lined the dusty road leading to the crossing. On Tuesday, 83 trucks arrived in Gaza, said Wael Abu Omar, a spokesman for the Gaza side of the Rafah crossing.

Tunneling became easier in 2005 when Israel pulled its soldiers and settlers out of Gaza, and when Hamas won power in a 2006 election. Although the military tunnels remained off-limits to outside eyes, during that era Gaza smugglers would show off their scarcely concealed commercial tunnels under the Rafah border. Israeli sources said what awaits them is formidable and they faced an enemy that has regrouped and learned from previous Israeli operations in 2014 and 2021.

ISTANBUL, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Turkey sent a plane with a medical team and supplies to Egypt on Sunday carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said. "Our plane took off to help Gaza. The presidential plane filled with medicine and medical supplies, carrying 20 specialist doctors, departed from Ankara to Egypt," Koca said in a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. The footage shared by the minister showed boxes marked with their contents being loaded onto a Turkish presidency plane. It says aid can enter through Egypt provided supplies do not end up in the hands of Hamas.
